President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday expressed worry over the colossal waste of N1 trillion in constituency projects in 10 years by lawmakers.
Buhari said what is on ground as projects by the lawmakers were nothing close to the amount given to them by the government and have no corresponding impact on the people.
Speaking in Abuja during a national summit organised by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Buhari said this has shown that the constituency projects have no effect on the common man.
Describing the situation as acts of corruption, he disclosed that through the efforts of the ICPC, some contractors were not returning to site to complete the constituency projects.
He added that the sponsors were also being held to account for the projects.
Buhari said, ‘‘The ICPC has my full support and the support of this government to hold fully to account contractors, complicit public servants and project sponsors who divert funds meant for constituencies or other people-oriented welfare projects of our government or who by other means reduce the quality and value of such projects meant for our people.’’
